The First Shot

From the Process

The brief started with a mood board - no direction beyond that. From the images I collected, I pulled a concept around 'il dolce far niente' [From Italian: The sweetness of doing nothing] and built a miniature rooftop in my apartment: a crumbling Tel Aviv building with 3D-printed solar panels, antennas, and a kiddie pool. I shot a short shot there - a man floating on a floatie, enjoying the moment in his regular daily life - as if he's on a vacation in Italy.
The second stage was to expand that shot into a lineup reveal for a real festival. I chose Cult on the Roof - a summer series where cult films are screened on the roof of Tel Aviv's city hall. I kept the same miniature set and filmed it across one full day: morning yoga, noon sunbathing, sunset wine, and an after-work cigarette. At night, A sheet stretched between the antennas becomes a screen - I aimed a real home projector directly into the physical set and filmed the animated typography reveal projected onto it in-camera. No compositing.
